from rookie to "the hammer"
Brian Diede, who hails from Huron, SD, started his career in 2001 in the Wissota Super Stock Division. Winning in just his 5th race at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, SD, the driver to be known one day as “The Hammer” went on to win 5 features that first year.
After two more years in the division, the decision was made to move up to the Late Model division — and he’s enjoyed a lot of success along the way.
“I’ve never really been one to keep track of my wins, but it’s not hard to figure it out with a little research these days. It’s somewhere between 80 and 90, with around 7 or 8 points championships. For the little bit that I race, my winning percentage is probably one of the highest you’ll come across — over the course of 16 years, I’ve averaged maybe 30 races a year. To win 80–90 features out of a total of 480 possible races, that’s a pretty good percentage.”

“Among my accomplishments, the ones I’m most proud of are my two Wissota Challenge Series wins — one in Great Falls, Montana, and the other at my home track in Huron, South Dakota.”
